What is the NTA 7516?

What is the NTA 7516?

The NTA 7516 is the standard that will provide clarity about the conditions that secure e-mails have to meet. The healthcare sector is in great need of being able to securely e-mail patient data. Standard e-mail, or e-mail without appropriate technical and organizational measures, does not meet the requirements for secure e-mail. The upcoming standard will form a starting point for healthcare professionals and the organizations in which they work, enabling safe communication within this sector.

Experts working in healthcare and stakeholders have merged into a working group to jointly implement the standard. SmartLockr is actively involved in this working group and offers secure communication to healthcare organizations, according to the NTA 7516.

Secure mailing with SmartLockr

SmartLockr is one of the organizations that has signed the declaration of intent for secure e-mail in healthcare. With this, the SmartLockr Intelligent Data Protection Platform binds itself to the standard that is required when it comes to integrity, confidentiality, user-friendliness and the degree of availability.

Below you will find some points that the platform meets:

Increase employee awareness

Article 39 of the GDPR mentions increasing awareness as an important measure.

Encrypted
transportation

Article 32 states that the use of appropriate encryption is required. This means that the content cannot be intercepted en route.

Standard
data security

Employees must also be able to easily opt for safety. Article 25, for example, states that safety must be the standard.

Encrypted storage with zero knowledge

This article also states that information must be stored in highly encrypted form, without access by the supplier.

Retract message with read status

In the event of an error, it is essential to be able to withdraw a message, including insight into whether the message has already been read. This is mentioned in Article 33.

Strong authentication users

Finally, Article 32 also states that ‘appropriate technical measures’ must be taken.
